Outline

Workshop

In this workshop we will review the three steps in the assessment process as described in our presentation:

1.
Define learning outcomes for each program and course,
2.
Measure how well these outcomes are being achieved using independent and objective means of assessment, and
3.
Use the feedback from the assessment step to continually improve the effectiveness of programs.

We will then take as a case study a typical medical program and develop a rudimentary assessment plan that includes learning outcomes for the program and for selected courses in it, assessment tools for measuring student learning, and a feedback mechanism to make sure that the results of the assessment step are used to continually improve the program design.
