All too often it is the foreign material becomes the focus of the ophthalmologist if a patient with an IOFB presents, rather than the coexisting or potential tissue damages the injury may have caused. It is exceptional that the foreign material needs to be extracted urgently (i.e., copper); in the vast majority of the cases, removal of the IOFB is only one part of the intervention. Addressing pathologies such as a vitreous hemorrhage or a retinal lesion is more important in the visual rehabilitation of the injured eye than IOFB extraction. This talk reviews the strategy and tactics of the treatment of eyes with posterior segment IOFBs. .
