In this symposium the EUNAAPA project will be presented. The project was selected for 2-years funding by the EU DG Sanco (Public Health programme).
Marijke Hopman-Rock (chair of the steering committee) will chair the symposium. Alfred Ruetten is projectleader and will introduce the whole project outline and the separate working packages. Kerstin Frandin is leader of the working package regarding assessment of physical activity, she will give a brief overview of this field. Susan Dinan will continue with the outline of the education part of EUNAAPA. Finally Ellen Freiberger will introduce the linkages to other networks involved in physical activity and the elderly (a.o. Mobex, Profane, HEPA, THENAPA, etc)
EUNAAPA has the following specific objectives:
- 1.
- To identify, disseminate and promote evidence-based practice in physical activity for all older people in Europe.
- 2.
- To select or develop evidence-based guidelines for practice in the area of ageing and physical activity.
- 3.
- To provide information and expert advice to policy makers, providers and professionals in the fields of ageing, physical activity and health.
- 4.
- To influence the development of educational curricula and standards of competence for professionals involved in the provision of physical activity for older people in Europe.
- 5.
- To develop synergies among researchers, providers and professionals in the fields of ageing, physical activity, and health.
- 6.
- To support policy makers in intersectoral approaches to the promotion of physical activity among all older people in Europe.
- 7.
- To cooperate with other organisations relevant to the promotion of physical activity among all older people.
- 8.
- To involve older people in the development and implementation of network activities.
