Text
Many methods of mucotomy/turbinoplasty have been developed. The history of mucotomy goes back into 19th century. Nowadays, the well established methods are those performed by diode laser or radiofrequency and the surgical turbinoplasty. The comparison study shows advantage/disadvantage of various methods in many aspects.
45 patients with chronic hypertrophic rhinitis resistent to conservative treatment were included in the study. The evaluation was performed pre- and postoperatively using a questionnaire based on visual analogue scale assessment of rhinitis symptoms and two objective methods: rhinomanometry and imaging method (CT or MRI). Results comparing medical and other aspects (local/general anaesthesia, out-/in-patient care, surgeon, postoperative period etc.) of laser or radiofrequency mucotomy and surgical turbinoplasty are presented and discussion regarding various aspects, inclusive medical and cost-effective, is established.
