Introduction: Subjects with Conductive hearing loss, mixed hearing loss and Single sided deafness (SSD) may benefit from the Baha system, because it bypasses the damaged or problematic area while stimulating the cochlea directly through bone conduction. The Baha® BP 100 allows a more precise fitting and provides advanced noise reduction algorithms compared to former system generations. The motivation for this comparative Upgrade was to measure the degree of improvement for recipients.
Method: Five subjects with Conductive and Mixed Hearing Loss participated in this upgrade, consisting of one fitting and 2 fine tuning sessions. The evaluation of subjects own Baha was conducted during the fitting session. The evaluation of BP100 was done during the fine tuning sessions. The evaluation of both Baha systems and unaided conditions contains speech understanding in quiet/noise as well as aided/unaided thresholds. The APHAB was used to measure the subjective performance at home.
Results: Initial results show a tendency for improved speech understanding in quiet and in background noise with Baha® BP 100.
