Background: A key objective of the Guidelines International Network (G-I-N) is to 'facilitate information sharing, education and knowledge transfer, and collaborative working to promote best practice and avoid duplication of effort'. As part of the effort to meet this objective, a group was established to define a minimum dataset for summarising the appraised literature (the G-I-N Evidence Tables Working Group [ETWG]). Two templates to summarise intervention and diagnostic studies were initially developed by the ETWG, with two new templates to summarise single studies related to prognostic questions and single economic evaluations have been in development. The interest generated by the templates and their utility to share work, encouraged the ETWG to develop an online registry of summarized papers (G-I-N Data Extraction Resource [GINDER]). The registry was officially launched at the G-I-N 2011 conference.
Objectives:
- To improve understanding of what is required in a minimum data set for summarising prognostic and economic evaluation studies, and introduce the final versions of the templates.
- To update and demonstrate using GINDER.
Target group: This workshop will be of most interest for guidelines or HTA developers, and researchers dealing with literature reviews.
This workshop will:
- Introduce the requirements for a minimum data set for summarising prognostic and economic evaluation studies.
- Present findings from the evaluation of draft versions of the templates, and introduce the final versions of the templates.
- Discuss and demonstrate using GINDER focussing on intervention studies, with time for questions and feedback.
