Purpose: To estimate trefoil changes using trefoil selective correction algorithm during Wavefront-guided LASIK for myopia and myopic astigmatism correction.
Patients and methods: 20 patients (40 eyes), Wavefront-guided LASIK with MEL-80. Before surgery and in 3 months post-op wavefront aberrations were measured in Malacara notation with WASCA, 6 mm pupil. Contrast sensitivity was measured with CSV-1000 (VECTORVISION). Group 1: 10 patients (20 eyes) – Wavefront-guided LASIK. Group 2: 10 patients (20 eyes) – Wavefront-guided LASIK with trefoil Z (3;3) selective correction. Corneal flap with 12 o’clock hinge was formed with Evolution 3E (Moria), M2 SU 90 heads.
Results: SE, groups 1 and 2 before surgery: -3.75±1,01 D and -4.3±0.95 D; after surgery: -0.02±0.08 D and 0±0.12 D, respectively (p>0.05). BCVA before surgery, Groups 1 and 2: 0.97±0.09 and 0.99±0.03; after surgery 1.01±0.12 and 0.99±0.02, respectively (p>0.05). RMS HO before surgery, Groups 1 and 2: 0.25±0.07 µm and 0.23±0.07 µm; after surgery 0.40±0.17 µm and 0.41±0.07 µm, respectively (p>0.05). Spheric aberration, Groups 1 and 2 before surgery: 0.12±0.19 µm and -0.07±0.15 µm; after surgery -0.39±0.30 µm and -0.51±0.28 µm, respectively (p>0.05). Trefoil value, both groups before surgery: -0.37±0.16 µm, after surgery -0.38±0.24 µm and -0.15±0.24 µm, respectively (p<0.05). Contrast sensitivity values were significantly lower in Group 1 than in Group 2.
Conclusion: Wavefront-guided LASIK with trefoil Z(3;3) selective correction reduces trefoil value which provides higher contrast sensitivity values after surgery compared with Wavefront-guided LASIK.
