5th International Conference of the German Society of Midwifery Science (DGHWi)

Welcome

The 5th International Conference of the German Society of Midwifery Science (DGHWi) will take place on February 13 and 14, 2020 at the University of Applied Sciences, Bochum, Germany on the theme of “Models of Care in Midwifery Science”

The conference presentations, held in German and English, will be simultaneously interpreted to allow an active exchange of ideas and lively discussion between participants from different countries.   
This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Andrew Symon. Dr. Symon will speak about “The Quality Maternal and Newborn Care (QMNC) Framework’s influence in policy, practice, education, and research”. Dr. Symon is a midwife as well as a senior lecturer in the Mother and Infant Research Unit at the University of Dundee in Scotland, where he is also the coordinator for the MSc Midwifery / MSc Maternal and Infant Health degree programs.

These proceedings of the 5th International Conference are being published as a supplement of the Journal of Midwifery Science (Zeitschrift für Hebammenwissenschaft).  

In the editorial of the supplement, the President of the German Society of Midwifery Science (DGHWi), Elke Mattern, M.Sc., will address the participants.

There will be official words of welcome from Professor Kerstin Bilda (#1), Vice President of Research at the University of Applied Sciences, Bochum, Christiane Borchard (#2), Chair of the Midwifery Community Support Association (Hebammengemeinschaftshilfe, HGH), a registered charity supporting midwives, Ulrike Geppert-Orthofer (#3), President of the German Midwifery Association (Deutscher Hebammenverband, DHV), Professor Anton Scharl (#4), President of the German Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Gynäkologie und Geburtshilfe, DGGG), Professor Rolf Schlösser (#5), President of the German Society of Perinatal Medicine (Deutsche Gesellschaft für perinatale Medizin, DGPM), Professor Wolfgang Lütje (#6), President of the German Society of Psychosomatic Obstetrics and Gynecology (Deutsche Gesellschaft für psychosomatische Frauenheilkunde und Geburtshilfe, DGPFG), Ilona Strache (#7), Chair of the Federation of Independent Midwives in Germany (Bund freiberuflicher Hebammen in Deutschland, BfHD), Kirsten Asmushen (#8), Member of the Board of the Society for Quality in Out-of-Hospital Midwifery (Gesellschaft für Qualität in der außerklinischen Geburtshilfe, QUAG), and Dr. Gertrud M. Ayerle and Elke Mattern (#9) on behalf of the Editorial Board.
The main part of the supplement comprises all abstracts that were submitted, accepted, and formally confirmed for the keynote speech as well all other presentations, workshops, and posters.

We would like to thank everyone who supported the Board of DGHWi and the Editorial Board in organizing the Call for Abstracts as well as in the evaluation of the abstracts submitted (Review Process), in putting together the program, and, last but not least, in all the preparations for the 5th International Conference. The University of Applied Sciences in Bochum undertook the organization and hosting of the entire conference.
Under the direction of Professor Rainhild Schäfer, the event was organized with the help of research associates Ruth Berghoff, Annette Berthold, Annika Bode, Fabiola Jessen, Kristina Luksch, Mirjam Peters, and Andrea Villmar.
The Board of the DGHWi would like to thank the organizing team for their sterling work, and the Midwifery Community Support Association (Hebammengemeinschaftshilfe, HGH) for its financial support.
